Overall Itinerary
This specialized tour of Iceland explores the causes and consequences of climate change on Arctic ecosystems and societies. Explore a land full of icebergs, glacial lagoons, volcanoes, waterfalls, geyser hot springs, lava fields, black sand beaches, canyon ice caves and fjords to witness astonishing natural landscapes that are changing at rapid rates.
Our 7-day program offers participants the opportunity to study climate change from scientific and indigenous perspectives. Scientific fieldwork will introduce you to the practical issues related to climate change research, while lectures by members of the indigenous community will introduce you to the ethical issues related to climate action in Iceland.
Expert researchers from the University of Iceland and industry professionals will discuss Iceland’s climate models, carbon management systems, and renewable technology resources. You’ll learn about, and be part of discussion for, sustainable solutions to prevent the negative impact of climate change with relation to: arctic air pollution, melting permafrost, thinning of ice sheets, and glacier retreat.
And of course, while onsite you’ll visit key natural wonders including:
- Thingvellir National Park with tectonic plates,
- Great Geysir geothermal area and Gullfoss Waterfall,
