Overall Itinerary

The first leg of our journey has us staying in Glyfada, just outside of Athens, where you’ll run along the beautiful Aegean coast. Glyfada is a thriving city with nightlife, shopping, restaurants, cafes, marinas, and beaches. From Glyfada we’ll organize day trips into Athens to visit the archaeological sites of the Acropolis, the Ancient Agora, the Areopagus, and the Olympeion, as well as renowned museums, including the Acropolis Museum. While in Athens we’ll walk together around the city, hike up Mount Lycabettus, and run towards Alimos and the Saronic Gulf coast.

We venture next to the Isthmus of Corinth and the archaeological sites of Mycenae and Epidaurus. Made famous by Heinrich Schliemann, Mycenae will impress you with it’s Lion Gate, citadel, and graves. Likewise, Epidaurus, with its ancient healing centre and theatre will offer spectacular views of the Argolid Peninsula.

Our travels take us next to Delphi, the bellybutton of the ancient world, and a place of pilgrimage for the ancients. We’ll tour the Sanctuary of Delphi, home of the Pythian Priestess and the (in)famous Oracle of Apollo, and visit the Archaeological Museum of Delphi, containing remarkable artifacts discovered onsite. We’ll also hike Mount Parnassus, a moderately difficult hike at 2,457 meters, offering a breathtaking view of the Gulf of Itea.

The last leg of our journey will have us back in Athens to prepare for the marathon race. The Athens Marathon commemorates a pivotal event in Greek history when, according to legend, Pheidippides ran from Marathon to Athens to announce the Greeks’ victory in battle in 490 BCE. The marathon race begins in Marathon and ends at the Panathenaic Stadium in Athens. The course is challenging for its tough uphill climb: from the 10km to the 31km mark you’ll run uphill towards your own personal victory!

After the marathon you’ll enjoy a day at the Hammam Baths – a relaxing treat after a long race and a perfect end to your journey in Greece!
